Repurposed drawers

It has been a great day and I managed to get 19 toilet paper tubes glued together in a special configuration for our mother's day craft at the library. I need to get 30 done as we have about that many children take part. Mother's Day Crafts at the library always get a great turnout. Boy, mom's will surely be surprised by this one.

On another note, I found 4 dresser drawers that I will repurpose into a paperback bookshelf. The drawers are about 6 inches deep so it will be great for it. It is amazing what people throw out. They are in great shape.
I removed the hardware and glued them together.

Now I have them clamped together waiting for the glue to dry. Waiting is the hardest part.

Smile like your guilty! Happy drawer hunting!

  1. I am about to attempt this project and would like to know if the glue was strong enough to keep it together. I don't want it falling apart on me and may reinforce with nails

    1. It did eventually come apart. Best to use small nails or bolts and nuts or small screws.

  2. I want to try this project but want to try using screws instead of or with the glue for extra support. Would love your opinion on this.

  4. I'm just about to tackle this. It is a huge highboy and I plan to make both a bookcase from the base piece and one from the drawers. Family is not happy that I insist on using old stuff... they are all for throwing things away!

  7. Small screws would be best and placed where the hardware once was, so that you can remove them and make the case shorter, make it easier to move if relocating, or reuse them for another project. If desired, you could cover the screws with wood filler.

  8. I Just found some old dresser drawers. And I want to make a book shelf out of them, but l want to leave the handles on. What kind of of tools do I need to use. These are long drawers, do I use nails, or screws.

    1. Hi Aquarius, did you finished your project? I was going to suggest to used them sideways if you wanted to keep the handles on them.

  9. Rose, I bet you did not sand the gluing surfaces before gluing them together. Try it next time you want to glue something that has been finished, sand. Jim

  10. I am planning on doing this project with four antique drawers I have. Did anyone who has done this project installed wheels or small furniture legs on it?
